Over $29 million forfeited in partner visa application fees: Avoid the costly mistake

A recent freedom of information disclosure provided insight into the partner visa process.

During the nine months ending in March 2022, a total of 36,854 applications for stage 1 of the partner visa were submitted. Of these, 33,835 were approved, while the remaining 3,019 were either withdrawn or denied, resulting in a loss of more than $23 million in visa application charges.

It's worth noting that the current visa application fee for the main applicant for a partner visa is $8,085, and refunds are only available in certain circumstances, such as if the applicant passes away before a decision is made.

Prospective marriage visa (subclass 300) applicants had a lower success rate, with more than 29% of 2,705 applications being refused or withdrawn, resulting in more than $6 million lost in visa application charges.

If you're considering applying for a partner visa, it's a good idea to seek guidance from a Registered Migration Agent or lawyer, especially if you have any complications with your application, such as past character issues or health conditions.

Even if your application is straightforward, consulting with an expert to confirm your understanding of the requirements or to review your application and evidence can help reduce the stress of the process and prevent you from wasting money on unnecessary fees.
